Shawl Lapel Tuxedo

Shawl Lapel Tuxedos were popular in the 70's and 80's but have since gone out of style. Many people do not even know what this type of tuxedo looks like.

The shawl lapel tux is similar to the other model tuxedos with the exception of its lapel. Lapels on this jacket are completely curved and appear to be very informal. The best example of this type of tuxedo lapel can be seen in Hugh Hefner's smoking jacket.

The lapels on both the smoking jacket and the shawl lapel tux are both the same, with the exception of a slot for a pin on the tuxedo's left lapel.

These types of tuxedos appear very informal and most people prefer not to wear them. You'll find that these tuxedos are hard to find and yet do not cost anymore to buy. This is simply because demand for them is very low.

If you prefer a toned down tuxedo look than you may want to get this tuxedo. However, most people would point out that you could simply wear a suit or some other piece of formal wear rather than bring down the tuxedo.

For those of you that are trying to decide what type of tuxedo lapel to get, you should really look towards either the peaked or notched. Peaked lapel tuxedos will look much more formal and notched lapel tuxedos will look more like hyped up versions of business suits.
